A new spin-off, founded by BilAI researcher Max Heisinger, focuses on optimising product variant selection and simplifying configurator development.
The core idea behind OptiKonf FlexCo is the development of powerful symbolic configurators. These systems allow providers to describe their product and service portfolios using familiar methods – such as property tables or simple decision logic. From these inputs, the 28-year-old scientist from JKU Linz and his OptiKonf technology automatically generate advanced, non-linear symbolic configurators that guide customers step by step towards their optimal product choice.
Smart Configuration instead of static catalogues
What makes this approach unique is that customers no longer need to navigate endless catalogues in predefined sequences. Instead, the system automatically completes the rest of the configuration based on just a few initial inputs.

From Symbolic to Subsymbolic AI
At its core, OptiKonf FlexCo relies on a symbolic reasoning engine built on state-of-the-art symbolic methods. But Heisinger’s vision goes even further: with the integration of subsymbolic AI, configurator development will become even more accessible, making it possible to create configurators directly via natural language input – entirely without coding.
