Bilateral AI had the honour of welcoming the federal minister for education, Martin Polaschek to discuss the ground-breaking research and goals of the Cluster of Excellence.
The visit provided an opportunity to showcase the project’s mission of integrating symbolic and sub-symbolic AI, pushing the boundaries of artificial intelligence toward innovative and practical applications.
During the visit, Minister Polaschek received an overview of Bilateral AI’s structure and objectives, which include fostering collaboration between academia and industry, supporting cutting-edge research, and training the next generation of PhD students and postdoctoral researchers. The Cluster’s interdisciplinary approach and focus on knowledge transfer ensure a strong foundation for meaningful partnerships with national and international industry stakeholders.
The team around key researcher Sepp Hochreiter also shared updates on the Cluster’s progress, highlighting advancements in research and ongoing projects. Key areas of focus include applications in drug discovery and life sciences, industrial process optimization, and other emerging fields where AI can have transformative impacts.
The discussion also emphasized the importance of advancing AI research in Austria and across the European Union, highlighting its potential to drive innovation and enhance competitiveness across various sectors. Key challenges were addressed, including navigating complex legal frameworks, securing financial resources, and ensuring the ethical development of AI.
